1 Rep Max Explained

1 Rep Max (1RM) is the maximum amount of weight an athlete can lift one time or for single “rep”.

This is a useful number to know to track your progress in a training program to see if. you are getting stronger, or to compare your strength to other athletes to see how you measure up.

Keep in mind while a 1 Rep Maximum is a useful measure of athletic performance, it has its limitations and may not be the only measure you want to optimize for in sports that require endurance, agility, flexibility, or skilled coordination.

For more information check out our detailed writeups about what a 1RM is, how it’s calculated, and it’s limitations.
